 A collaboration of ZEBx and the NACC, the Passive House Building Certification Course is delivered by Canada’s three leading Passive House certifiers. This one-day course will equip practitioners with the high-demand skill of how to prepare a successful submission package for large Passive House buildings. Leveraging insights and experiences from national experts, examples from both successful and unsuccessful projects will be examined to demonstrate best practices.

AIBC Core Learning Units

Through the completion of this course, architects and architectural technologists can earn 6.5 Core Learning Units, designated by the Architectural Institute of British Columbia (AIBC).

Learning Objectives

  • Develop a thorough understanding of the certification requirements for building standards maintained by the Passive House Institute (PHI).
  • Understand the process of: contracting a Building Certifier; the expected roles of Passive House consultant and certifier; and submission formats.
    • The City of Vancouver’s requirements for Certified Passive House projects seeking exemptions under current policy will also be reviewed.
    • Gain a thorough understanding of what is included in a submission for Building Certification, including PHPP, drawings, product verification, performance testing and site photographs.
    • Understand strategies to avoid common barriers towards building certification.
